White Terror

I recently read an article about white terror versus non-white terror.  Much of it compared policies like the Muslim ban while white terrorists threaten this country on a more real level.  The idea that this country is constantly afraid of non-white people puts into prospective of who is in charge of the country.  Non-white people are still looked at as other and when bad things are committed the entire race is condemned.  White people are constantly painted as a human being after they have committed heinous crimes.  From the student athlete who just happened to rape a girl at a party or the affluent retiree who opened fire on innocent concert goers.  Whtie people are constantly painted as something better than what they are in order to continue the master narrative that they are the smartest, and the savior of minorities that are too savage to save themselves.  Even though Donald Trump recently successfully passed ban on Muslims, white conservatives are responsible for most of the acts of terror.  Black people are seen as thugs no matter the situation which incites situations such police brutality.  The country has a conception that black people in every situation are the most dangerous people in the room.  This cause police to want to take action before the black person does even if they are unarmed.  Non-white people are constantly painted as a violent people that cannot control themselves.  This thought process goes back to lynchings throughout the south in order to protect white women.  White people have a history of attacking first and asking questions later.  This often leads to many people unjustly injured or murdered.  Because the majority of terrorist attacks occurred from United States citizens the Muslim ban will have little effect on public safety.  Most times the attack has no ties to any formal terrorist group.
In fact, between 2001 and 2015, more Americans were killed by homegrown right-wing extremists than by Islamist terrorists, according to a study by New America, a nonpartisan think tank in Washington, DC.”
White terror has become a real problem for the country even though it is not recognized an will not be.  White people have the freedom to do what crime they want and still be seen as a human being that made a mistake.  The Muslim ban and Police brutality is the systematic oppression of non-white people put into action.  Although police brutality is not supposed to be happening in theory, watching policemen continually be let off just shows that it is perfectly legal to kill an unarmed citizen.

  1. This post highlights the sad and disturbing truth about race in American culture. As a society, we often turn a blind eye to racial tactics and the system that fosters them. Acknowledging them would require that we begin to reconstruct the systems that have historically allowed white superiority to prevail, or at the very least confront these racial issues, exposing feelings of fear and discomfort. There is a lot of dishonesty about race and racism in this country which consequently allows for white supremacy to continue to inflict violence and oppression while targeting non-whites as the problem.

  2. The data cited here is extremely telling. It goes to show that the conversation has to be totally reframed in order to address these dangerous trends domestically.
